 Household waste collection update

Subject to the ballot result, a two-week strike by Amey employees, who are GMB Trade Union members, is due to start on Monday (13 June).

The Isle of Wight Council and Amey are working closely to make sure there will be minimal disruption to waste services should Amey staff not accept the pay offer made yesterday (Wednesday). 

The company will continue to engage with their employees to avoid or bring the strike action to a close as soon as possible.

Residents are being encouraged to continue to put out their bins/sacks, including recycling and green waste, on their normal collection days.

In the event your waste is not collected, please visit www.iow.gov.uk/waste where regular updates and information will be available.

The council would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding at this time.

Should I put my bin/sack out on my regular calendar day?

Please continue to put your bin or sack out as normal on your scheduled collection day. Please visit www.iow.gov.uk/waste for further information.

Can I put recycling or garden waste into my rubbish bin?

No. Recycling and garden waste should not be placed in the general waste.

Can I put out more waste than fits in my bin/sack?

No, the strike action is occurring over the normal two-week cycle for general waste collection and this service will be maintained as normal. Please do not set out excess waste or add recycling or garden waste to your black general waste bin/sack.

Can I take recycling, garden waste and general waste to the recycling centres (the tip)?

Yes. Both Afton Marsh and Lynnbottom Household Recycling Centres are open as usual.

Please check our website for locations, opening hours and site restrictions. You will need to book an appointment, as usual, to visit the centres.
