Gravel extraction at Wootton

More information about the gravel pit in our area, with lorries going to Wight Building Materials site.

Dear Resident

Further to my e-mail regarding gravel extraction at Wootton, I understand that an application has been submitted to the IW Council Planning Department.  Although it is not in our Parish, as I said before, there are implications for us as lorries will be coming to Wight Building Materials at St Georges Down, off the main road just after (or just before – depending on which way you are going) the Blackwater junction, which is in the Parish.  The proposed route is for them to come along the East Cowes Road, up Lushington Hill to Station Road Wootton, then Briddlesford Road to the Hare and Hounds and then to Arreton Cross (the Hare and Magpies) to turn right to go back towards Newport to their depot and then return the same way.  The proposal is for the site to be worked between the hours of 8am and 4pm and would generate approximately five trips per hour i.e. between two and three each way.

Should you wish to look at the documents, here is the link:-

You are, of course, welcome to make comments on your own behalf but should you wish to make your views known to the members of the Parish Council, the application will be on the agenda for our meeting on Monday, May 9th at 7pm in the Community Centre.  Comments need to be submitted by Monday, May 16th.

Best wishes

Sheila
