Arreton Works Bulletin No 8
4TH JUNE 2015
Introduction
This is the eighth bulletin for the highway scheme at
Arreton, in which we try to keep you informed
of the latest developments on site.
Carriageway Update
This may be the final update on the carriageway element of
the scheme as we are delighted to
inform you that the carriageway reconstruction and
resurfacing works are nearing completion and
are expected to be completed next Tuesday 9th June 2015,
with the site being cleared and white
lines painted on Wednesday 10th June 2015.
During phase 5 of the works, some residents may have noticed
that that the normal pattern of work
was disrupted between Heasley Lane and Stickworth Lane. This
was due to the fact that we
encountered several ‘soft spots’. These only became apparent
once we were in the process of
compacting the first layer of material. Once the ‘soft
spots’ had been identified, the affected areas
were removed and replaced with a material that strengthened
these sections. This meant that the
excavation depth was increased in some areas to 600mm.
Footway Update
Please note we are working towards completing the footways
in line with the above programme,
however there is a risk that the footway programme may lag
behind by a few days. This is related to
the phasing of the works and will mean that although the
road will be open to through traffic, there
may be temporary traffic lights between 09:30 and 15:30
while the footway works are being
completed. Obviously we will endeavour to have these removed
as soon as possible.
Project Overview
Providing the weather continues to be kind, then the above
programme will result in the road being
opened up overnight on Wednesday to through traffic. However
as explained above, there is a risk
that there will be temporary traffic signals during the day
to allow the completion of the footway
phases.
This means that the carriageway will be opened to through
traffic 4 ½ weeks ahead of programme
and that the footway element will be completed 3 ½ weeks
ahead of programme, if not earlier.
Once again, we would like to thank you for all your
cooperation and understanding throughout the
project. Once all of the elements of the programme have been
completed, we will circulate a final
bulletin which will provide a project summary. We will also
attach a questionnaire to gather
feedback, which we intend to use to inform our future
decision making on similar projects.
How to Contact Us
The best way to contact us is through the Island Roads Hub
(01983 822440 or
info@islandroads.com) as this is operated 24 hours per day,
7 days a week. This method allows us
to record any questions and deal with any issues as quickly
as we can. As mentioned above,
although we will have personnel on site 24 hours a day, 7
days a week, they may not be aware of
any wider issues and they will not be able to answer all
enquiries.
Alternatively, Owen Ratcliffe at the Post Office is kept up
to date with developments on an almost
daily basis and is more than happy to assist you if he can.
If he can’t help, then he can raise your
concerns or questions with the site manager who he is in
regular contact with.
