Today the village of Arreton on the Isle of Wight went quiet
as Island Roads closed the Main Road through Arreton as the 12 week repair and
resurfacing work starts.
Main Road Closed in Arreton |
Island Roads will be starting major reconstruction works in Arreton Street, Arreton from the junction
of Downend Road up to Horringford Crossing. At the same time will be resurfacing the section of
Hale Common, Arreton between Horringford Crossing up to the entrance of the Fighting Cocks Public House car park.
The reconstruction works will be done in 4 phases:
• Phase 1 – Arreton Cross – Southern boundary of the Arreton Community Hall
• Phase 2 – Southern boundary of the Arreton Community Hall to north side of access to
Cherry wood View.
• Phase 3 –North side of Cherrywood View to north side of Arreton Stores and Post Office.
• Phase 4 – North Side of Post Office to Horringford Bridge.
Each phase will take around Two to Three weeks to complete.
Each phase of the works will include planing off the existing carriageway and removing the
substructure. This will be replaced using a product called foambase which requires a curing period to
allow it to reach full strength. Following the completion of the foambase operations the road
surface will be replaced and the section of road reopened as the works transfer to the next phase.
This operation will mean working dayshift and nightshift during each phase, however there will be
times when there appears to be no works progressing and this will normally be when the material is
gaining strength, or we are experiencing poor weather.
As the above works are progressing we will also be working nightshift to complete the sections of
resurfacing works in Hale Common, Arreton.
