With just four weeks to go to the final leg of the Tour of Britain cycling race on the Isle of Wight, we are bringing you some further information to help you plan and prepare for the event.
The Tour culminates on the Island on September 11 when around 100 of the world’s best cyclists will take on the 150-kilometre last leg of the series in what is believed to be the largest sporting event hosted by the Island.
The event will be broadcast live around the world giving the Island global profile while residents will have a grandstand view of a major professional sporting event.
Parking
The race will inevitably have an impact on the highway network including a rolling road closure of between 30 minutes and an hour so riders can pass safely. Longer closures will be necessary at the start on Ryde Seafront and along the finishing stretch – the Military Road at Chale to The Needles.
You can find out more about these rolling road closures via the following link www.iow.gov.uk/documentlibrary/view/tour-of-britain-route-timings
As cyclists will be reaching speeds of around 40 miles an hour on sections of the course, organisers require roads to be free of cars in the interests of both the riders and public safety.
If you live on the route and do not have off-street parking, you are asked to remove your car from the road by 6pm on Saturday 10 September (the night before the race) and find alternative parking away from the route until the event has finished. Warning notices and cones will be set out on the route to identify the course prior to the event.
We ask for your cooperation in relocating your vehicle but please be aware if you do not remove your car from the route as required we will, in the interests of safety, have to relocate your vehicle to a safe place nearby. You will then need to ring 01983 823800 to locate it.
